OUT ON 28/01/22 – Two dramatic and tumultuous works, performed by three highly-acclaimed performers, comprise this short, shadowy and heavily sombre EP. Franz Schubert’s ‘Erlkönig’ (1815) and Héloïse Werner’s ‘The Erl-King’ (2021) were composed over two-hundred years apart yet both take inspiration from the same Erl-King myth. Schubert drew from Goethe’s well-known ballad, while Werner employs text taken from Angela Carter’s ‘Bloody Chamber’; this particular excerpt being a feminist reworking of the original myth. ‘The Erl-King’ was commissioned by Shiry Rashkovsky to mark the 30th year since Carter’s death.
